Running Will Do That

Have you ever been walking out and about, say at a mall or on the street, wherever and reach out with a hand gesture to say hi, or a "good mornin'". or some quip?  Probably not very often and that includes me.  But when running, us runners almost always acknowledge one another in these ways.  Even in NJ when running at Manasquan Reservoir, there was nearly always  an exchange of one of these types (which surprised me even more in NJ). Running in NC is no different. Runners are runners and we are a diverse crowd.  Just look around at the next race you attend, either running or being a cheerful fan.  You will see the acceptance of all individuals into the community.  It doesn't matter about  your ethnicity, white, African-american, Hispanic, Asian, your sexual orientation, your political party affiliation, being a Christian, Jew, Hindu, Muslim or atheist.  You can be man, woman, transgender, fast runner or slow runner.  We still uphold our personal convictions but are accepting of others.  If we, as a global society just loved one another, cared more about our fellow man, woman and child, all of us; would we not live in a better world?  It sounds simple and its obviously not, but the running community seems to have found a way to bring this diversity together.  Unfortunately in Boston, it was those outside of the running community that proved destructive that day.  There are marathons all over the world welcoming runners from all over the world.  Yes, Running Will Do That, bring people together.  Something else will too, Love.  The song below is a song again by Darius Rucker called Love Will Do That.  As I was running 10 miles this morning, passing others and offering a "good mornin'", this song played on my Shuffle.  Love and Running are interchangeable in this song.

The second I saw you
What was important
Wasn't important no more
Love [Running] will do that
Love [Running] will do that

Made the old moon burn brighter
Led to all-nighters
Made sleeping a thing of the past
Love [Running] will do that
Love [Running] will do that

It changes everything
Makes the angels sing
Puts the past in the past
It'll drive you crazy
Sometimes it just makes you laugh
Yeah, love [running] will do that

Turns minutes to hours
Days into years
Gets time to moving so fast
Love [Running] will do that

It makes you move mountains
Or not an inch
Life's good right where we're at
Love [Running] will do that
Love [Running] will do that

It'll give you a sunset
And an old rockin' chair
A hand to hold while you're looking back
Yeah, love [Running] will do that
Love [Running] will do that

Today Day 11: 10 miles; 2014: 67 miles
